The competitive programs for the XIV Documentary Film Festival “Flahertiana-2014” have been completed

Traditionally, two competitive programs are held within the Documentary Film Festival “Flahertiana”: the international program and the “Russian Flahertiana” program.

The international program will include the films from all over the world. The spectators will see films about modern Karamazov brothers (“Life Almost Wonderful” by Svetoslav Draganov), Iranian women-ninja (“Iranian Ninja” by Marjan Riahi) and many others. The Flahertiana team has been participating in the events of the world’s documentary films to select the best films to be shown at the festival in Perm.

More than 300 films from all over the world were submitted to this international competition, and 17 were selected as potential participants. This year the participating countries include Canada, Poland, France, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Germany, Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania, Holland and Finland.

This year a record number of Russian films have been selected for the international competitive program. Three films will represent Russia at the festival: “Blood” (Alina Rudnitskaya) about the daily routine of a mobile blood transfusion station, “Del and his predel” (Elena Laskari) about the founder of the theatre in a provincial town and “The Book” (Vitaly Mansky) about the relationships between modern and ancient cultures.

The XIV International Documentary Film Festival Flahertiana will take place in Perm from September 21 till September 28. The festival’s competitive program includes those films that comply with Robert Flaherty’s aesthetic principles. These are films where the main character lives on the screen a part of his life directed by the author according to the laws of dramatic art. The main methods of such films are the long-term follow-up and «habitual» camera.
